Communities of Practice
Communities of Practice are simply a group of people that are knowledgeable and interested in the same thing that help one another on problems that arise. For example, in class, we used the example of WordPress. Here is the components we came up with that form this COP. Oddly enough, people often participate in Communities of Practice frequently without knowing it. A club or a sports team are perfect examples of these. You voluntarily choose to join the club or team. You work to accomplish goals with others that have similar ones; helping each other along the way with any problems or questions that arise. They collaborate to form a community that is formed and succeeds due to communication. Some argue that anything lower than collegiate sports is not a COP due to the team they join not necessarily being chosen because there are no other options.
