The Aftermath of Harambe

Most people that have access to the internet know about Harambe and the sad story that happened there. It was a huge national news story and debate over what should happen to the animal. In my personal opinion; he should've been given a medal for not harming the child. But he was killed and people went insane. Meme's, hate crimes, jokes; all a result of social media spreading things people created about the situation. The famous quote "Dicks out for Harambe" was introduced and apparel even was made. Within all these postings emerged dark humor that has taken over the sadness and turned it into a joke. I personally think it is of course sad, yet I still find it to be more of a joke due to social media and the internet giving me that perception. Here is a link of a reading we read for class that brought me to write this page. I think it has an interesting way of comparing two animal killings that were completely different.

  1. Yeah Corey, I agree with you. It’s hard not to say “dicks out for Harambe” the moment his name is mentioned but yes, it is a tragic event. The situation overall leaves a lot of “discussion” due to Harambe being in captivity versus the wild like Cecil, which is why jokes can be made due to the circumstances. Tragic as they both are we’ve obviously learned that death, human and animal, is not off-limits for non-major media.
